Suncheon City and KAIST Hold Meeting for Mutual Growth in Aerospace Industry
Promoting Collaboration Between Government and Academia
in the Era of "New Space"
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 21st that it held a meeting with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) on the 19th in the city hall's small conference room to discuss mutual growth in the space and aerospace industry.
The event was attended by a total of 12 professors from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at KAIST, the top authority in the field of space and aerospace, including Department Head Lee Jeongryul.

View original imageThe meeting began with opening remarks from Department Head Lee Jeongryul of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, followed by a sharing of the city's current status in promoting the space and aerospace industry, discussions on industrial cooperation for mutual development between the city and academia, and policy proposals for the city's space and aerospace industry.
Policy proposals included various perspectives such as support for the settlement of employees in space, aerospace, and defense companies; industrial linkage utilization of major facilities at tourism and transportation hubs; and the creation of systems to encourage voluntary company settlements.
Lee Jeongryul, Department Head, stated, "I believe that launch vehicle assembly is both the foundation and the most crucial core of the launch vehicle business, paving the way to space."
He also said, "Starting with the attraction of the nation's largest launch vehicle assembly facility, I expect Suncheon City to play a pivotal role in the national space industry, and I hope that both institutions will achieve mutual growth through organic cooperation in the future."
A city official commented, "In order to build infrastructure related to space, aerospace, and defense, and to promote advanced technology projects, R&D and manpower support from universities and research institutes are essential," adding, "The city plans to expand the industrial ecosystem through continuous collaboration between the city and academia."
