Mentions Rare Earth Stakes and Greenland
U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 19th (local time) that he hopes Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States.
President Trump made this remark about Xi's visit to the U.S. during a meeting with reporters on board his private plane returning from Florida to Washington D.C., according to a White House press pool report.
Earlier, on his inauguration day last month on the 20th, when asked by reporters whether he would visit China this year, Trump said, "I might. I have been invited."
President Trump also responded "It's possible" when asked if a new trade agreement with China was feasible. The U.S. daily The New York Times (NYT) reported that more than six current and former advisers familiar with Trump's thinking said that while any agreement would face significant obstacles, Trump wants to reach a wide-ranging deal with President Xi that goes beyond just adjusting trade relations.
Trump also revealed that he is considering imposing a 25% tariff on imported lumber and forestry-related products.
He further stated that he is prepared to attempt an agreement regarding the U.S. acquisition of stakes in Ukraine's rare earth resources. Regarding Greenland, which the U.S. has shown interest in, he reiterated that it is necessary from a security perspective. He also said that the federal government should take over the city government of Washington D.C., the capital.
Regarding the delay in Boeing's delivery of Air Force One (the U.S. president's official aircraft), Trump said, "I will not be satisfied with Boeing," and mentioned that he could purchase used aircraft or buy from other countries.
During his first term, President Trump had arranged to receive two Boeing 747-8 aircraft. One was scheduled for delivery in 2024 but has been postponed to 2027, and the other delayed until 2028.
