Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission Office of the Chinese Communist Party (also serving as Foreign Minister), emphasized on the 18th (local time) that China supports Ukraine's peace efforts.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 19th, Director Wang made this statement during a speech at the United Nations (UN) Security Council. He said, "The Ukraine crisis has now exceeded nearly three years," and "China supports all recent efforts to seek dialogue and negotiations."
Director Wang referred to the principles mentioned by President Xi Jinping at the early stage of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. At that time, President Xi stated that China would continue to uphold the 'four principles': respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, adhering to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respecting the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and supporting efforts conducive to the peaceful resolution of the crisis.
Director Wang emphasized, "Together with the Global South countries (mainly emerging and developing countries located in the Southern Hemisphere), we will raise a rational, objective, and fair voice," and "We will contribute to peace by presenting a common understanding to stop the war."
Regarding the Middle East issue, he also stated, "The Gaza Strip and the West Bank are the homeland of the Palestinian people," and "It is an important principle that Palestinians govern Palestine."
