Hanam-si Urgently Allocates 'One-Point' Supplementary Budget for Livelihood in 1st Additional Budget
6.6 Billion KRW for National Veterans’ Honorary Allowance Support Project
21.9 Billion KRW for Senior Citizens’ Transportation Expense Support Project
Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 19th that the first supplementary budget of this year, the ‘One-Point’ livelihood budget, which was urgently prepared to overcome the livelihood economic crisis caused by the regional economic downturn earlier this year, has been finalized.
This first supplementary budget was promoted to quickly allocate livelihood-related budgets aimed at revitalizing the local economy and stabilizing the lives of vulnerable groups, in order to overcome the difficulties of the livelihood economy. The main project list includes 660 million KRW for the support project of the national veterans’ honorary allowance and 2.19 billion KRW for the Hanam City senior citizens’ transportation expense support project.
First, the support project for the national veterans’ honorary allowance will be increased from the existing 150,000 KRW to 170,000 KRW. The city swiftly amended the related ordinance to establish a legal basis for the allowance increase, and the increased allowance will be paid to about 3,700 people starting from March without any additional application procedures once the ordinance is promulgated at the end of this month.
Secondly, senior citizens aged 70 or older residing in the city will receive up to 160,000 KRW annually for transportation expenses. The city promptly enacted the related ordinance for this transportation expense support, and when local seniors use metropolitan, city, or village buses, they will receive transportation expense support up to 40,000 KRW per quarter, with an annual limit of 160,000 KRW.
This project will allow seniors to receive transportation cards issued by NongHyup Bank starting in April once the related institutional agreements and operational system are completed. The transportation expenses will be supported quarterly only for the transportation card fares actually used within the maximum support limit. It is expected that 30,066 seniors, about 9.7% of Hanam City’s population, will benefit from this.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, “Due to the recent economic downturn and high inflation, vulnerable groups including seniors are experiencing many difficulties in their daily lives,” and added, “We have slightly increased the veterans’ honorary allowance to improve the welfare of national veterans and their families who have devoted themselves to the country, and implemented the senior citizens’ transportation expense support project to actively guarantee their mobility.”
He continued, “Through this supplementary budget allocation, we will promptly implement the livelihood budget designed to alleviate the burdens of vulnerable groups such as seniors who are facing difficulties, and we will continue to strive to create a city where seniors want to live based on active communication with them.”
