BPA Donates Recycled Products Made from Waste Plastic to Local Children's Centers
Upcycled Toy Blocks and Work Gloves Donated
to Busan Port Construction Sites
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sang-geun) donated 420 toy blocks made from recycled plastic (ABS) to local children's centers in Busan and Changwon, Gyeongnam, on the 19th.
Through Save the Children Korea, the donation was made to a total of 14 local children's centers located in Saha-gu, Yeongdo-gu, Jung-gu, Gangseo-gu, Dong-gu, Nam-gu in Busan, and Jinhae-gu in Changwon.
In January, 3,000 pairs of work gloves produced by recycling waste PET were distributed to seven construction sites, including the Busan Port North Container Phase 2 port hinterland complex construction site, to promote the safety of port workers. Thirty percent of the material of the work gloves distributed by Busan Port Authority consists of recycled PET.
Since 2021, BPA has been conducting the “Waste Resource-Free Busan Port Project,” which utilizes waste PET generated at Busan New Port, the International Passenger Terminal, and other Busan ports to produce recycled fabric through processes such as compression and crushing, and then manufacture new products. The resource circulation project promoted by BPA is carried out through cooperation with various stakeholders including local governments and regional small and medium-sized enterprises.
The local social enterprise, Kokkiri Gongjang, collects and crushes PET generated by BPA and provides finished products such as towels and safety vests. Additionally, the preprocessing work required before recycling, such as sorting, is carried out in cooperation with the Dong-gu Senior Club in Busan through local senior employment programs.
The “Waste Resource-Free Busan Port Project” promoted by BPA not only utilizes waste resources but also contributes to creating local jobs, supporting local companies’ market access, and practicing social contribution through donation activities, making it a project with multiple benefits.
