Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, presented 'restoration of people’s livelihoods' as the core goal of the first year of the special city administration.
Mayor Jeong announced this administrative direction during his first policy speech of the year at the city council’s extraordinary session held on the 18th. In his speech, he emphasized, "The most important goal for the citizens of the special city is the restoration of people’s livelihoods," adding, "To achieve this, we will focus administrative capabilities on three key areas: economy and safety, welfare, and culture and transportation."

View original imageIn his speech, Mayor Jeong explained policy plans to revitalize the local economy and strengthen industrial safety nets. The plan includes issuing the nation’s largest local currency and early achievement of a 20 trillion won investment attraction project to secure economic growth momentum. He also presented a blueprint to accelerate the transition to eco-friendly industries by establishing an RE100 industrial complex and to lay the foundation as a high-tech industrial city by gradually developing Hwaseong Technopolis. To prevent recurring industrial accidents, the 'Industrial Safety Keeper' system will be introduced to enhance the safety of working environments.
In the welfare sector, the plan is to expand the 'Emergency Welfare Project' so that all citizens can receive care without discrimination and to strengthen support to eliminate welfare blind spots. In particular, to address the low birthrate issue, support benefits for childbirth households will be increased, and the 'Gajok Manse Center' will be opened to provide various customized family support services.
He also proposed plans to improve citizens’ quality of life by expanding cultural, sports, tourism, and transportation infrastructure befitting the status of a special city. This includes completing the Hwaseong Arts Center (September) and Dongtan Central Library (October), as well as steadily proceeding with projects such as the groundbreaking of Hwanggeum Coastal Road and Goryeomsan Marine Park, the opening of Seohae Maru Youth Hostel, and the construction of the exhibition greenhouse at Botanic Garden Hwaseong Yeoul Park.
He explained that the convenience of citizens’ mobility will be improved by expanding the metropolitan transportation network centered on 14 ongoing railway projects.
