Multicultural Education Policies Praised During Tenure as Superintendent
Kim Seok-jun, a preliminary candidate running for re-election as Busan Superintendent of Education, announced on the 18th that he has gained the support of multicultural and immigrant parents.
Multicultural and immigrant parents in the Busan area visited Kim Seok-jun's campaign office on the same day and declared their support for the candidate following a meeting where they shared opinions on the conditions of multicultural education.
At the meeting, parents from various countries including China, Vietnam, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, and Taiwan attended and expressed their views on the problems faced by students with multicultural and immigrant backgrounds in Busan's educational field and the directions for improvement.
They proposed key tasks such as △expanding multicultural sensitivity education within schools △eliminating blind spots in school enrollment △improving treatment for bilingual education and multicultural education instructors △ensuring the educational rights of children with foreign nationality.
In response, candidate Kim Seok-jun said, “I will strengthen education policies to create schools where all multicultural and immigrant background students in Busan can be happy in classrooms free from discrimination,” adding, “I will listen carefully to the voices of immigrant parents and strive for practical policy improvements.”
Immigrant parents unanimously praised Kim Seok-jun for establishing the Multicultural Education Support Center and implementing multicultural sensitivity education during his tenure as Superintendent of Education.
