Ordinance Supporting "Dignified Life Organization Education for Seniors" Passes Plenary Session
The "Gwangsan-gu Ordinance on Supporting Dignified Life Organization Education for Seniors," proposed by Council Member Yoon Hyeyoung (The Minjoo Party of Korea, Shinheung-dong, Usan-dong, Wolgok 1 and 2-dong, Unnam-dong) of the Gwangsan-gu Council in Gwangju, has passed the plenary session.
According to the Gwangsan-gu Council on the 18th, this ordinance was established to help seniors organize their lives with dignity and to protect their dignity and value. It aims to improve perceptions of death and supports education on writing wills, life organization records, and advance directives for life-sustaining treatment.
Additionally, the ordinance stipulates that the district mayor shall promote related education for residents aged 65 and older in the district, so that their right to self-determination is respected in matters such as asset organization and funeral procedures. A confidentiality clause is also included, prohibiting the use or disclosure of information obtained during the course of the project for purposes other than its original intent.
Yoon stated, "As we approach a super-aged society, I believe it is also the duty and responsibility of society to help seniors organize their lives with dignity," and added, "I will work to create a healthy senior welfare model that ensures seniors can enjoy their rights to dignity and happiness."
