Ground Weakening During 'Haebinggi'... Government Conducts Safety Inspections on Vulnerable Facilities
Residents Can Directly Request Safety Inspections
As the full-scale thawing season begins, the government will conduct safety inspections on vulnerable facilities. If local residents judge that nearby facilities are dangerous, they can directly report safety inspections through the Safety Report Center.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the "Thawing Season Safety Inspection Related Agencies Countermeasure Meeting" on the 14th, chaired by Lee Han-kyung, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, to prepare for safety accidents during the thawing season from February to April. During the thawing season, when the frozen ground surface from winter melts and the ground weakens, there is a high risk of safety accidents such as collapses, overturns, landslides, and potholes.
At the meeting, safety management measures were discussed focusing on vulnerable facilities by agency. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, together with related agencies, will conduct safety inspections of vulnerable facilities from the 17th to April 2nd. Vulnerable facilities include slopes and steep slopes, construction sites, roads, reservoirs, and river embankments. Risk factors identified from the inspection results will be promptly repaired and reinforced.
To eliminate blind spots in inspections, the "Resident Inspection Request System," which allows local residents to request safety inspections of nearby facilities, will also operate from the 23rd to March 14th. Applications can be made through the Safety Report Center application or website.

Director Lee said, "During the thawing season, even small carelessness can lead to major accidents, so the government will thoroughly inspect and supplement vulnerable facilities to prevent safety accidents. We also ask the public to actively report any dangerous factors they discover around them through the Safety Report Center, as this will greatly help prevent safety accidents."
