Gwangju Nam-gu to Operate Parent School Program for Multicultural Families
Gwangju Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 14th that it will launch a variety of projects to support the stable social settlement and harmonious lives of multicultural family members and marriage immigrants.
The Nam-gu Family Center will operate a multicultural parent school program from next month until November.
This is because parents in multicultural families often lose their self-esteem while struggling with academic guidance and management for their children.
Starting next month, the Nam-gu Family Center plans to run the multicultural parent school program, focusing on both online and offline education, preparation for the qualification exam, and home learning guidance.
The program is open to parents of multicultural families residing in the district with children, and six families will be selected through interviews to participate in the parent school.
Those confirmed as participants will study the elementary school curriculum through a total of 37 sessions, including classes held in the center's lecture room and home learning guidance until August. Parents who complete this course will then begin preparing for the qualification exam starting in September.
In addition, an empowerment program for marriage immigrants will be offered until November.
This includes support for taking the Korean Language Proficiency Test and social integration for obtaining permanent residency, with two programs being operated.
The Korean language education courses are diverse, including a beginner Korean class, intermediate and advanced TOPIK classes, nationality acquisition class, pronunciation correction class, Korean writing class, and Korean for office workers.
Most of the courses are conducted at the center, while the intermediate and advanced TOPIK classes are provided via online Zoom sessions.
Additionally, the social integration program is conducted step by step, from level 2 to the advanced level 5.
An official from Nam-gu stated, "We will do our best to promote related projects so that members of multicultural families and marriage immigrants can learn the language and culture of Korea and settle stably into Korean life."
