First Lady Kim Geon-hee Shows No Response to Sookmyung Women’s University Plagiarism Notification on Thesis
No Response Past the Objection Deadline on the 12th
High Likelihood of Plagiarism Findings Being Finalized
It has been confirmed that Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of President Yoon Suk-yeol, did not express any intention to contest the notification of plagiarism regarding her master's thesis, which was communicated by Sookmyung Women's University.
According to Sookmyung Women's University, Kim Geon-hee's side did not file any objection by the deadline for contesting, which was yesterday (the 12th).
If the Sookmyung Women's University Democratic Alumni Association, which raised the plagiarism allegations, does not file an objection by March 4, the university's plagiarism investigation results will be finalized as is.
If neither party files an objection, the university's Research Ethics and Integrity Committee (Yeonjinwi) must decide the level of sanctions within 60 days through deliberation.
Possible sanctions include notifying research funding agencies, restricting thesis supervision and examination, and demanding retraction or correction of the thesis. If retraction is decided, the degree will also be revoked.

The thesis under plagiarism suspicion is titled "A Study on the Characteristics of Paul Klee's Paintings," which Kim submitted to the Graduate School of Education at Sookmyung Women's University in 1999. Following the controversy, the university formed the Research Ethics and Integrity Committee (Yeonjinwi) in 2022 to investigate, but only recently reached a conclusion of plagiarism.
