Yeosu City Awarded as Best Institution for Water Management in 2025
Efforts Recognized for Establishing a Stable Water Supply Network and Expanding Public Sewage Treatment Facilities
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung) announced on the 13th that it was selected as the “Best Water Management Institution for 2025” and received an institutional commendation at the 2025 Water Comprehensive Technology Workshop held at Lahan Hotel in Gyeongju.
This event was a forum jointly hosted by the National Assembly Environment Forum, Water Journal, the Korean Environmental Science Association, and North Gyeongsang Province. The forum aimed to explore water industry development strategies in line with the low-carbon and green growth agenda and to commend local governments that have performed their duties efficiently.

View original imageSince 2019, the city has invested 64.8 billion KRW in the “Advanced Water Purification Facility Installation Project,” equipping the Dundeok Water Purification Plant with a system capable of processing 92,000 tons per day and the Hak-yong Water Purification Plant with 42,000 tons per day, earning recognition for its efforts to provide safe and clean water.
Additionally, with the goal of achieving a water supply rate of 85%, the city is investing 51.4 billion KRW in the “Local Water Supply Modernization Project,” which has been highly praised for improving water supply management efficiency through the establishment of a modern pipeline management system.
This year, for the first time in the country, the city will complete the “Small-scale Village Sewage Project” using a private investment (BTL) method, expanding 20 sewage treatment facilities capable of processing 1,730 tons per day.
A city official stated, “We will continue to strengthen the supply of clean water by establishing the best possible water and sewage infrastructure to enhance citizens’ trust and satisfaction in tap water.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City has attracted the Water Comprehensive Technology Workshop as a MICE event linked to the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. The event will be held twice at the Expo Convention Center, in September 2025 and September 2026.
