Gwangju Public Officials' Union: "No Permit for Pro-Insurrection Forces' Rally in Gwangju"
The Gwangju Regional Headquarters of the National Public Officials Labor Union (hereinafter referred to as the Gwangju Headquarters of the Public Officials Union) condemned the announcement of a rally in Gwangju by groups supporting illegal martial law.
On the 13th, the Gwangju Headquarters of the Public Officials Union issued a press release stating, "Forty-five years ago, the Airborne Troops trampled on Gwangju, and on December 3 last year, they surrounded the National Assembly in Yeouido, the sanctuary of the people's will. However, the demand for the lifting of martial law was passed, and martial law was lifted within five hours, so the horrific situation of 45 years ago did not recur." They added, "However, those supporting the insurrection are now causing riots at the Seoul Western District Court and are creating further chaos by taking over the May 18 Democracy Square, the sacred ground for democratic citizens."
They continued, "The insurrectionist forces have declared that they will hold a large-scale rally on the 15th to occupy Geumnam-ro. Across the country, there is criticism against them, and at the Yoon Suk Yeol Immediate Resignation and Social Reform Gwangju Emergency Action, a press conference was held appealing to Gwangju citizens to protect Geumnam-ro."
Furthermore, they emphasized, "The Gwangju Headquarters, in the name of the citizens of Gwangju, does not permit the occupation of Geumnam-ro by those supporting the insurrection," adding, "The ringleaders who attempted to monopolize power through illegal martial law and those who support the insurrection must not be allowed to set foot in Gwangju."
