Incheon Office of Education Improves Emergency Bell System in Care Classrooms... Strengthens Review of Teachers with Illness
Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will improve the emergency bell system to ensure the safety management of students participating in after-school care classes and strengthen the review and support for teachers with illnesses.
On the 13th, the Office of Education announced that it has prepared measures to enhance student safety and teacher support, focusing on these points in relation to the death of an elementary school student in Daejeon.
First, the Office of Education decided to strengthen student safety management by improving the emergency bell system in after-school care classrooms at elementary and special schools. Previously, pressing the emergency bell in the classroom connected to the management office, but going forward, emergency reports will be made directly to the police station and fire station.
Additionally, at least two care staff members will be assigned for students participating in Neulbom School before and after regular classes.
To manage teachers with illnesses, which was the cause of the Daejeon incident, the Office of Education plans to designate specialized hospitals within the first half of this year to enhance the effectiveness of managing teachers' mental illnesses and to activate the operation of the Teacher Illness Review Committee.
Online psychological tests will be expanded for all teachers to identify high-risk groups for mental health in advance and provide counseling and healing support. Since its operation began in September 2021, the Teacher Illness Review Committee of the Office of Education has reviewed a total of five cases and has processed three cases with compulsory leave.
