Gyeonggi Province Supported 260,000 Rural Workers Last Year... 3.3 Billion Won to Be Invested This Year
Gyeonggi Province supported a total of 263,333 agricultural workers last year.
According to Gyeonggi Province on February 13, the province provided support for 28,275 people through Rural Workforce Brokerage Centers, 10,836 people through the Public Seasonal Worker Program, 176,829 people through labor assistance, 36,173 people through court-ordered community service, 8,540 people through the Employment Permit System (residents), and 2,680 people through the seasonal worker (entry and employment) program.
Currently, Rural Workforce Brokerage Centers recruit domestic workers in advance and connect them with farms during the busy farming season without charging any brokerage fees. These centers are operating at seven locations across six cities and counties: Pyeongtaek, Paju, Hwaseong, Pocheon, Gimpo, and Yangpyeong.
The Public Seasonal Worker Program is a project in which the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation directly employs foreign seasonal workers, provides shared accommodation and meals, and supports farm work outsourcing. This year, the program is operating in four locations: Anseong, Paju, Yeoju, and Yeoncheon. It is particularly well received by small and medium-sized farms that have difficulty hiring foreign workers for long-term employment.
Park Jongmin, Director of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to actively address the agricultural labor supply issue and ensure stable agricultural productivity by expanding the Public Seasonal Worker Program, strengthening the operation of Rural Workforce Brokerage Centers, and increasing accommodation for foreign workers."
