Each Company’s Board Decides to Halt Management Integration Talks
Honda and Nissan Motor of Japan are expected to officially announce the cancellation of their merger on February 13.
According to Kyodo News on February 12, Honda and Nissan each plan to hold board meetings on February 13 to decide to halt their management integration talks, which began at the end of last year. Previously, in December 2024, Honda and Nissan announced that they would begin discussions to integrate their management by establishing a holding company in August 2026, with both companies becoming subsidiaries of the holding company.
However, differences emerged during the course of the negotiations. Honda, dissatisfied with Nissan's self-rescue measures amid its business slump, proposed making Nissan its subsidiary. In response, strong opposition arose within Nissan, which had hoped for an equal merger, leading Nissan Motor Chairman Makoto Uchida to inform Honda on February 6 of the decision to halt merger talks.
