Gwangju City Council Adopts 'Government Proposal' for Future Projects
"Urgent Need for Exemption from Preliminary Feasibility Study for Future Mobility Industrial Complex and AI Phase 2"
Early Supplementary Budget Urged to Address Population Cliff and Local Extinction
On the 12th, the Gwangju City Council adopted the 'Government Proposal Urging the Promotion of Gwangju's Future Core Projects,' jointly proposed by members of the Industrial and Construction Committee, during the 2nd plenary session of the 330th extraordinary meeting.
In the proposal, the City Council pointed out, "The Gwangju Future Mobility National Industrial Complex, which is the region's most pressing issue and a key driver for reestablishing Korea's status as an automotive powerhouse, is facing delays in Cabinet approval due to the absence of a government control tower."
The council continued, "The second phase of the Gwangju AI Cluster Project, which will help Korea become one of the world's top three AI powers, is also progressing slowly," adding, "To keep pace with the rapidly changing global landscape centered around AI and the launch of the next U.S. administration, it is essential to ensure the uninterrupted promotion of the second phase of the AI project."
The City Council also called for ▲the swift selection of the Future Mobility National Industrial Complex as a national strategic project ▲prompt exemption from preliminary feasibility studies for the AX Demonstration Valley Project (AI Phase 2) ▲and the allocation of supplementary budgets to address crises such as the population cliff and the risk of local extinction.
Park Pilsun, Chair of the Industrial and Construction Committee and the main proposer of the resolution, stated, "At a time when internal and external uncertainties are increasing, the difficulties faced by local regions, including Gwangju, are even greater," adding, "The prompt promotion of key future projects that will open up the region's future and the stabilization of national administration to support them are more urgent than ever."
