LG AI Research Institute announced on the 12th that it participated in the 'AI Action Summit' held on the 10th and 11th (local time) at the Grand Palais in Paris, France, to highlight the importance of AI safety and inclusion.

The 'AI Action Summit' is a forum where leaders from over 100 countries, as well as representatives from industry and academia, gather to discuss AI’s potential and risks in a balanced manner, focusing on AI for the public good and AI’s environmental impact. At this summit, LG AI Research Institute informed high-level officials from various countries about the company’s role and efforts, including AI technologies that enhance data reliability and practical measures to ensure everyone can equally benefit from AI.

To proactively identify and improve potential risks arising during AI research and development, LG AI Research Institute has made AI ethics impact assessments mandatory for all research projects conducted at the institute. A total of 229 potential risks were identified and addressed across 70 projects. Under the belief that "all problems start from data issues," the institute also developed a 'Data Compliance Agent' that automatically analyzes risks in the data used for AI model training and evaluates risk levels, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in data usage.

Additionally, the report included AI ethics practice cases from major LG affiliates such as LG Electronics and LG Uplus, emphasizing the efforts to spread AI ethics practices throughout the group. As part of the 'Paris AI Action Summit,' LG AI Research Institute held an event in collaboration with UNESCO titled 'Preparing AI for the World,' discussing international cooperation measures for inclusive and responsible AI governance and sharing best practices.

Previously, LG AI Research Institute participated in 24 global AI governance discussions, including the UNESCO AI Ethics Global Forum, AI Seoul Summit, and the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights, to share its AI ethics practice cases. The AI Ethics Accountability Report, which details the implementation results of LG AI ethics principles, was published for the second consecutive year last year.

In the foreword of the report, Baek Kyung-hoon, head of LG AI Research Institute, emphasized, "As the impact of AI technology on society grows, accountability becomes increasingly important." He added, "LG AI Research Institute has made AI ethics impact assessments mandatory for all R&D projects to detect and improve potential risks early and has established a strict data compliance system to lay the foundation for trustworthy AI development." He continued, "Beyond securing reliable AI technology, we will contribute to creating an inclusive AI ecosystem where the benefits of AI technology are evenly distributed to all members of society."
