Pohang City aims to achieve 10 tons of spring greens and leafy vegetable exports this year.
In particular, the export of shepherd's purse, wild chives, and water dropwort marks Pohang City's first success in expanding fresh agricultural product exports, a policy the city has been promoting. By selecting and exporting quantities sold at the Forestry Cooperative's local food store, it is expected to greatly help farmers expand their sales channels.
Building on this export, Pohang City plans to continuously promote the export of various local greens and leafy vegetables such as budiggaengi, chamnamul, geundae, and sesame leaves.
Earlier, Pohang City held an export consultation meeting and achieved significant cooperation to expand fresh agricultural product exports by 2025, signing export contracts for fresh agricultural products and regional specialties such as napa cabbage, spinach, strawberries, distilled soju, and frozen mulhoe.
This export to Canada is also a follow-up contract, capturing the tastes of Canadians and conducting weekly air exports, which is expected to increase export volumes and stabilize farmers' income.
Son Byeong-ung, head of the Pohang City Forestry Cooperative, said, “We are pleased to be able to export spring greens and leafy vegetables that are repackaged and sold at the local food store operated by the Forestry Cooperative,” adding, “We will cooperate with farmers to export the highest quality specialty products and widely promote the excellence of Pohang agricultural products.”
