It is anticipated to provide direct benefits to approximately 30,000 Hanam residents who commute daily by subway between the two cities, as well as positively impact transportation development in the eastern Gyeonggi region.
The Climate Companion Card is a subscription pass that allows unlimited use of public transportation such as subways and buses within Seoul, as well as the Seoul public bike system, Ddareungi, with a single fare charge (62,000 KRW, or 65,000 KRW including Ddareungi). Since its launch, it has incorporated citizen requests by offering benefits such as youth discounts (7,000 KRW off per month), short-term passes (1, 2, 3, 5, 7-day passes), credit card charging and postpaid options, and various discounts on admission to cultural facilities. To date, there have been 7.56 million cumulative recharges, with 700,000 active cards, and an average daily user count of 600,000.
Seoul City has been negotiating with nearby local governments such as Gimpo, Gwacheon, Goyang, Namyangju, and Guri to expand the Climate Companion Card's connectivity within the metropolitan area. Following the agreement with Hanam City, it is now possible to travel using the Climate Companion Card in all major cities in the eastern Gyeonggi region adjacent to Seoul, including Namyangju and Guri. Currently, six Seoul-licensed city bus routes passing through Hanam City (342, 3217, 3316, 3318, 3323, 3413) already accept the Climate Companion Card.
