Experience the Life of Joseon Women in the UAE... Exhibition "Hwahyepongju's Room"
Introducing the Culture of the Era Through Traditional Crafts and Hanbok
An exhibition highlighting the life of Princess Hwakhyeop (1733?1752) and the daily life of Joseon women will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Korea National University of Cultural Heritage announced on the 5th that it will present the exhibition "Princess Hwakhyeop's Room" at the Korean Cultural Center in the UAE, which modernly interprets the living space of Princess Hwakhyeop. Princess Hwakhyeop was the daughter of King Yeongjo (reigned 1724?1776), the 21st king of Joseon, and the elder sister of Crown Prince Sado. She was said to be exceptionally beautiful and deeply filial but passed away at the young age of twenty.
The exhibition space is designed to offer a glimpse into the life of Joseon women. It showcases various traditional crafts, hanbok, and small items reflecting gyubang culture, believed to have been found in the rooms of royal women, illustrating the culture of the era.
The exhibition also introduces modern reinterpretations of cosmetic containers analyzed from makeup tools and cosmetic vessels excavated from Princess Hwakhyeop’s tomb, as well as the painting "Princess Hwakhyeop’s Adornment" by obsidian artist (real name Una-young).
