According to AFP and other sources on the 2nd (local time), President Trump told reporters at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington DC, "I don't expect anything tremendously dramatic," and said he plans to speak with the leaders of Canada and Mexico on the morning of the 3rd before imposing a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico on the 4th.
He stated, "We have imposed tariffs, and they (Mexico and Canada) owe us a lot," adding, "I am confident they will pay (the tariffs)."
