The two agencies checked compliance with regulations related to migrant workers’ residential facilities, as well as violations of the Farmland Act and the Building Act, while conducting guidance activities to improve the living environment of migrant workers. They also listened to the difficulties faced by the migrant workers themselves.
Kim Won-gyu, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Immigration and Social Affairs Bureau, stated, “We will prepare various support measures, including linking with related civic organizations, so that migrant workers no longer live in illegal and poor facilities such as vinyl greenhouses and can lead a dignified life.” He added, “Through consultations with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, we plan to conduct continuous on-site inspections of migrant workers’ residential facilities in the province and promote more active administrative measures if guidance is not followed, aiming to improve the treatment of migrant workers.”
Gyeonggi Province has established and is operating a task force chaired by the Second Deputy Governor for Administration called the ‘TF for Improving the Residential Environment of Migrant Workers’ to systematically and consistently promote policies related to migrant workers.
