"Limited Edition Whiskey, Pre-Order via App"... Sales Increased 8 Times This Year
Seven Eleven's Mobile Liquor Reservation Sales Surge Eightfold
Reservations Increase, Centered on Special Edition Products
Limited Edition Whiskey Tops Sales
Convenience Food Reservations Also on the Rise
Recently, the industry as a whole has been focusing on liquor reservation services through mobile apps. As liquor consumption trends represented by ‘homsuljok’ (home drinking group) and ‘honsuljok’ (solo drinking group) have become the new normal, public perception of mobile liquor reservation and pickup services is also changing.
According to Seven Eleven on the 22nd, last year, sales of Seven Eleven convenience store’s mobile liquor pre-order service doubled compared to the same period the previous year. As of the 21st, this year’s sales have increased by a remarkable eight times. The liquor pre-order service is available through Seven Eleven’s official mobile app, ‘Seven App,’ allowing customers to reserve various liquor products such as beer, wine, and whiskey and pick them up at their desired store on their preferred date.
Recently, the popular keywords for Seven Eleven’s liquor pre-order service have been ‘large volume,’ ‘limited edition,’ and ‘premium traditional liquor.’ Popular products mainly consist of special edition items that are hard to find in regular stores.
In December last year, Seven Eleven added a ‘large volume beer’ category to its pre-order service. This broke the convenience store beer purchasing pattern, which typically centers on small quantities of 1 to 4 cans, by planning box-type (24-pack) purchases. Currently, Seven Eleven sells a total of 22 large volume liquor products, including ‘Longboard Lager Can Box,’ ‘Asahi Shokusai Box,’ ‘Big Wave Golden Ale Box,’ and ‘Heineken 5ℓ Keg (2-pack).’
The top-selling product is a limited edition whiskey. The product ranked number one is the ‘Wild Turkey Jimmy Russell 70th Anniversary Release,’ which was listed in the ‘Top 20 Most Interesting Whiskeys of 2024’ by the world’s leading whiskey magazine. It is reasonably priced but has received a positive response as a limited edition item.
Not only liquor but also the reservation sales of various convenience foods are increasing. According to Seven Eleven, the slow aging health trend recently led by Professor Jung Heewon of the Geriatrics Department at Seoul Asan Medical Center has sparked explosive reactions with the launch of a slow aging convenience food series in collaboration with the professor.
