Uijeongbu-si Implements Special Traffic Measures for Lunar New Year Holiday
Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 21st that it will fully implement special transportation measures from January 24 to February 2 during the Lunar New Year holiday period to ensure safe and convenient travel for homecoming and returning travelers as well as visitors to ancestral graves.
These measures have been prepared with the goals of ▲expanding public transportation capacity ▲establishing transportation order ▲strengthening traffic safety ▲and building a late-night passenger transfer system to cope with the surge in transportation demand during the holiday period. In particular, the city plans to minimize citizens' transportation inconveniences through extended operation of the light rail and enhanced ticket reservation systems.
The operation plans for city and village buses, taxis, and other public transportation will be adjusted to improve travel convenience, and the number of runs will be increased as necessary to alleviate traffic congestion at terminals and subway stations. The light rail will extend its last train times on January 29 and 30 during the holiday period to allow convenient use even at late hours.
Additionally, pre-inspections and administrative guidance were conducted targeting terminals and public transportation operators to thoroughly check facilities and safety, and safety driving and fatigue prevention education were provided to transportation workers to ensure accident prevention.
