On the 19th, in relation to the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the governors of Gwangju and Jeonnam collectively expressed their welcome and emphasized the need to stabilize people's livelihoods.
Kang Gi-jung, Mayor of Gwangju, stated on his Facebook page, "This is the judiciary's stern punishment against the forces of insurrection," and added, "It is the people's mandate to restore the livelihood economy."
He also said, "We must revive people's livelihoods through a prompt 'super supplementary budget.'"
Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam, also remarked, "No one can shake the democracy of the Republic of Korea," and evaluated, "The world has witnessed that the fate of the leader of an insurrection is only stern legal punishment and constitutional removal."
He continued, "We must focus on the livelihood economy before it is too late. The government and all political parties, both ruling and opposition, should start with a supplementary budget for people's livelihoods as soon as possible."
