Doosan Enerbility Partners with Agency for Defense Development ... Contract for Aircraft Engine Testing Project
Support for Prototype Production and Rig Testing of High-Temperature Combustors
Doosan Enerbility is partnering with the Agency for Defense Development to produce combustors and test rigs.
Doosan Enerbility announced on the 15th that it has signed a contract with the Agency for Defense Development for the "Combustor and Test Rig Production Project."
Through this contract, Doosan Enerbility will support the prototype production and rig testing of high-temperature combustors, which are part of the high-temperature combustor development under the "Future Challenge Defense Technology" program by the Agency for Defense Development.
A rig is a device and structure designed to simulate the engine configuration with installed components to stably conduct performance testing and verification of the developed engine parts at the unit level.
Doosan Enerbility plans to carry out this project until April 2027.
A Doosan Enerbility official explained, "Since aircraft engine combustors undergo many rig tests during the development process, their production and testing are usually conducted ahead of the engine system development."
Through this project, Doosan Enerbility plans to develop an optimal combustor with excellent performance and reliability and conduct combustor rig tests in various environments where aircraft operate.
The prototype production of the combustor will extensively apply advanced high-temperature component technologies accumulated in the power generation gas turbine field.
To respond quickly and accurately to customer demands and various design variables, advanced manufacturing technologies using Additive Manufacturing (AM) techniques will be prioritized.
Additionally, Doosan Enerbility will integrate Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) technology, which involves layering refractory coatings on the inner walls of the combustion chamber to protect the combustor from high-temperature combustion flames, as well as know-how in test rig design and production accumulated in the power generation gas turbine field.
Doosan Enerbility is currently undertaking the "Engine Layout Design and Analysis Service" project, which can be seen as a preliminary task for this project, and is also carrying out facility improvement work at the Agency for Defense Development's test site where the combustor testing will take place.
A Doosan Enerbility official anticipated that linking the projects will further enhance the completeness of aircraft engine development.
