Yangju City Welcomes 24 Foreign Seasonal Workers for the First Time This Year... Assigned to 13 Farms
Expected to Work for Up to 8 Months
Training Provided for Workers and Farms
Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the morning of the 14th that foreign seasonal workers, who will help resolve labor shortages at farms with insufficient manpower, have entered the country through Incheon International Airport.
These are the first seasonal workers to enter this year through an overseas business agreement (MOU) with Yangju City, totaling 24 people, including 14 from Laos and 10 from Cambodia. They have been assigned to 13 farms in the area and are expected to work for up to 8 months.
Yangju City conducted the ‘2025 Foreign Seasonal Workers and Farms Training’ for foreign workers and their employer farms.
This training was prepared to enhance understanding of the foreign seasonal worker program and to help build mutual relationships. It consisted of fire safety, crime and drug prevention education for foreign workers, and labor standards law and human rights violation prevention education for employers.
In particular, the training emphasized employment conditions such as providing appropriate living environments for foreign workers and compliance with minimum wage regulations.
A Yangju City official stated, “We hope that the entry of seasonal workers and the implementation of training for workers and farms will help farms struggling with labor shortages. We will strive to ensure that foreign workers can return safely to their home countries after their contracts end, and to promote a project that satisfies both farms and workers.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Foreign Seasonal Worker Program’ is a system introduced by the Ministry of Justice to allow foreigners to work in industries that require concentrated labor for a short period to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas. This year, the city was allocated a total of 530 foreign seasonal workers, which is about a 23% increase from 406 workers last year.
