Icheon-si "Hobeop-myeon Dancheon 1-ri, Crematorium Attraction Application Submitted"
City Shifts Project Approach
from Public Contest to Resident Proposal
On the 14th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that residents of Dancheon 1-ri, Hobeop-myeon recently submitted an application for the establishment of the Icheon Crematorium along with a petition supporting the establishment signed by residents of nearby villages.
The application designated Dancheon 1-ri village in Hobeop-myeon as the establishment area, and attached petitions supporting the establishment from nearby villages including Dancheon 2-ri in Hobeop-myeon and Pyogyo 2-ri and Gakpyeong-ri in Majang-myeon, the city explained.
The proposed site for the crematorium is located at San 55-1, Dancheon-ri, covering an area of 126,282 square meters. The site is adjacent to Provincial Road No. 12, providing good accessibility and ease of creating entrance and exit roads. The city stated that the site is considerably distant from nearby residential areas, making it a favorable location for the crematorium.
Previously, the city held two rounds of public contests for crematorium candidate sites, but after these failed, it recently withdrew the 'contest' method and changed the project approach to resident proposals. The city has been planning to build a site of at least 20,000 square meters to accommodate four cremation furnaces and has been seeking villages interested in hosting the facility.
