The legal team of former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, who was indicted on charges of insurrection, announced on the 13th that they have filed a bail request (release under conditions such as a deposit) with the court and requested that December 16 be designated as the date for the bail hearing.

View original imageKim’s legal team argued, "If the charge of insurrection was excluded from the grounds for impeachment, it means that the National Assembly, the body that initiated the impeachment, has abandoned the proof of the insurrection charge itself," adding, "This constitutes a significant change in circumstances and a clear reason for bail in Kim’s trial." They also stated, "As one of the defendants, Kim Yong-hyun must be fully guaranteed the right to defense," and added, "The bail request is a declaration of resistance against illegal investigations."

Kim Yong-hyun was indicted and detained on November 27 on charges including conspiring with President Yoon on December 3 to declare martial law with the purpose of disrupting the constitutional order, ordering the blockade of the National Assembly, and deploying armed martial law troops (charges of engaging in important duties of insurrection and abuse of authority to obstruct the exercise of rights).
