Yangpyeong-gun, Global Measles Outbreak... Vaccination Recommended Before Overseas Travel
The Yangpyeong-gun Public Health Center in Gyeonggi recently announced on the 8th that it recommends vaccination before traveling abroad due to the global outbreak of measles.
Last year, a total of 49 measles cases occurred domestically, all of whom were infected either after traveling abroad or through contact with infected individuals.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection transmitted through coughing or sneezing, characterized by symptoms such as high fever, rash, and Koplik spots inside the mouth. More than 90% of people with insufficient immunity to measles can become infected upon contact with a patient.
Measles can be fully prevented with vaccination, which should be administered twice: once at 12 to 15 months of age and again at 4 to 6 years of age. For those who have not completed the two-dose vaccination or whose vaccination status is uncertain, it is recommended to complete two doses (at least 4 weeks apart) 4 to 6 weeks before departure.
During travel, it is important to maintain personal hygiene such as hand washing and wearing masks. If symptoms suspicious of measles, such as fever, appear upon entry or after travel, you should visit quarantine officers or medical institutions for treatment.
