"Support for Fertility Testing Costs"... Seocho-gu Expands Implementation to Men and Women Aged 20-49
Support Up to 3 Times, Including 130,000 Won for Women
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 5th that it will expand the ‘Pre-pregnancy Health Management Support Project’ for residents wishing to undergo fertility testing starting this year.
This project aims to provide residents with an opportunity to detect health risk factors that may affect pregnancy and childbirth at an early stage and to create a healthy pregnancy environment.
Starting this year as a regular implementation, the project has expanded its support target from couples (including common-law and prospective couples) during the initial trial period to men and women aged 20 to 49 who wish to undergo fertility testing. Through this, more residents are expected to prepare for a healthy pregnancy.
The support amount is up to 130,000 KRW for women and up to 50,000 KRW for men. The support covers essential examination fees, consultation fees, and other testing fees necessary to confirm fertility. The essential tests include semen analysis (detailed sperm morphology test) for men, and ovarian function test (AMH) and ultrasound examination for women.
The number of supported tests is divided by age-specific risk factor detection cycles, providing support once per cycle (1st cycle: ages 20-29, 2nd cycle: ages 30-34, 3rd cycle: ages 35-49), up to a maximum of three times.
Residents of Seocho-gu who wish to receive support can visit the public health center in person or apply in advance online (e-Health Center), then undergo testing at a nearby designated specialized medical institution and submit a claim to the health center within one month. The cost can be reimbursed within three months from the claim date. As of December 20 last year, there are 16 designated medical institutions in Seocho-gu, and residents can check the availability of testing on the e-Health Center website before visiting.
Meanwhile, the district had initially planned to implement this project this year but conducted an early trial for two months starting November 1 last year. During the early trial period, 375 people (158 men and 217 women) applied in advance, and the claimed examination fees will be paid within this month.
