The 'Special Committee for the National Investigation into the Truth of the Insurrection through the Declaration of Martial Law by the Yoon Seok-yeol Government' (hereinafter referred to as the Special Investigation Committee) will be launched on the 31st. The chairman will be Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Gyu-baek, and the floor leaders from both ruling and opposition parties will be Kim Seong-won and Han Byung-do, respectively.

According to political circles on the 30th, the ruling and opposition parties plan to hold a plenary session tomorrow, the last day of the year, to adopt the 'Plan for the National Investigation into the Truth of the Insurrection through the Declaration of Martial Law by the Yoon Seok-yeol Government.' On the same day, before the plenary session opens, the Special Investigation Committee will appoint the chairman and floor leaders through a full meeting. Once the implementation plan is adopted in the plenary session, the Special Investigation Committee is expected to begin its activities immediately.

The Special Investigation Committee consists of a total of 18 members: 10 from the Democratic Party (Kim Byung-joo, Kim Seung-won, Min Byung-duk, Min Hong-chul, Park Seon-won, Baek Hye-ryun, Ahn Gyu-baek, Yoon Geon-young, Chu Mi-ae, Han Byung-do), 7 from the People Power Party (Kang Seon-young, Kwak Gyu-taek, Kim Seong-won, Park Jun-tae, Lim Jong-deuk, Joo Jin-woo, Han Ki-ho), and 1 from a minor party (Yong Hye-in).

Earlier, on the 29th, there were expectations that the launch schedule of the Special Committee might be delayed due to the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, but it was decided to proceed as planned. Originally, the Special Investigation Committee was scheduled to hold its first meeting at 1 p.m. on the 30th, but the ruling and opposition parties agreed to postpone it by one day to handle the passenger plane disaster.

Kim Seong-hoe, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said, "Tomorrow's plenary session is being promoted by agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, so it is expected to proceed as scheduled."

The Democratic Party plans to accelerate the investigation into the martial law incident through the Special Investigation Committee. On the other hand, the People Power Party plans to moderate the level of confrontation against the opposition party's unilateral attacks during the committee's proceedings.

On the 12th, Park Seong-jun of the Democratic Party of Korea, Shin Jang-sik of the National Innovation Party, Cheon Ha-ram of the Reform New Party, Jeon Jong-deok of the Progressive Party, Yong Hye-in of the Basic Income Party, and Han Chang-min of the Social Democratic Party submitted the "Request for a National Investigation into the Emergency Martial Law and Treason Acts of the Yoon Seok-yeol Government" to the National Assembly's Legislative Affairs Office.
