Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center Achieves 4 Consecutive Medical Institution Certifications from Ministry of Health and Welfare
"Medical Crisis, Record High Patient Numbers, and Other Challenges Overcome Through Staff Encouragement and Unity to Achieve Valuable Certification"
Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences was recently selected by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a ‘4th Cycle General Hospital Certified Medical Institution,’ earning recognition as a reliable medical institution in the fields of medical service quality and patient safety for the fourth consecutive time.
Medical institution certification is a system awarded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation, which comprehensively evaluates patient safety, the level of medical services, and the operational status of medical institutions, granting certification to those that meet the certification standards.
The institute underwent the ‘4th Cycle Medical Institution Certification Survey’ conducted by the Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation under the Ministry of Health and Welfare from September 10, 2024, for four days, including document review and on-site inspection. As a result, it received excellent evaluations in all areas across four domains: fundamental value system, patient care system, organizational management system, and performance management system, as well as in 512 survey items including △patient safety assurance activities △care delivery system and evaluation △patient care △pharmaceutical management △surgery and anesthesia sedation management △respect and protection of patient rights △quality improvement and patient safety activities △infection control △management and organizational operation △human resource management △facility and environment management △medical information and medical record management. This achievement secured the institute’s fourth consecutive medical institution certification. Notably, the sincere evaluation attitude and active participation of many staff members, including doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and administrative personnel, played a significant role.
Lee Chang-hoon, Director of Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, stated, “This year’s certification holds special significance. As a regional representative public medical institution, the institute has absorbed even patients who find it difficult to receive treatment at tertiary hospitals, resulting in increased severity of diseases and a record-high number of patients.” He added, “Although the workload for medical staff was doubled or tripled in a more challenging environment, the certification was earned through mutual cooperation and encouragement, making it even more valuable.”
He continued, “Through medical institution certification, we have once again been objectively recognized for the quality and safety of our medical services, making it a rewarding year fulfilling our responsibilities in public healthcare. I want to extend the greatest applause to the staff who did their best.”
