The province expects that the accessibility between northern Gyeonggi and downtown Seoul will be dramatically improved, enhancing commuting convenience for local residents as well as promoting regional economic development.
With the opening of GTX Line A, which runs at a maximum speed of 180 km/h, travel time from Paju Unjeongjungang Station to Seoul Station will be significantly reduced from up to 90 minutes by existing public transportation to about 22 minutes.
GTX Line A will operate at 10-minute intervals initially between Unjeongjungang Station and Seoul Station to stabilize service, and the fare for this section is 4,450 won.
GTX Line A was first proposed by Gyeonggi Province to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in April 2009, aiming to shorten travel times for residents and alleviate traffic congestion.
Following the opening of the Suseo Station to Dongtan Station section in March, five additional stations including Unjeongjungang Station, Kintex Station, Daegok Station, Yeonsinnae Station, and Seoul Station have now been opened.
Construction is underway with the goal of fully opening the entire section from Paju Unjeongjungang Station to Hwaseong Dongtan Station by 2028.
Oh Hu-seok, Deputy Governor for Administration, stated, “The Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) is expected to contribute to resolving traffic congestion by improving accessibility between northern and southern Gyeonggi and Seoul. We are continuously working to expand railway infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi and will strive to make northern Gyeonggi a growth engine of South Korea through a major transformation of the region.”
