The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kim Yung-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, 11 appointed committee members, and 8 ex officio members, totaling 20 members. The co-chairperson is Ko Seokgyu, an honorary professor at Mokpo National University.
These members are experts with professional capabilities in various fields such as employment, women, social welfare, agriculture, marine affairs, environment, and the local economy (industry), and will serve for two years.
Following the inauguration, the first meeting was held, presided over by Ko Seokgyu, co-chairperson of the Sustainable Development Committee, where they deliberated on the 'Basic Strategy for Sustainable Development of Jeollanam-do.'
Jeollanam-do plans to establish and implement the Basic Strategy and Action Plan for Sustainable Development, which is composed of 17 goals, 50 detailed objectives, and 140 action tasks, based on the vision of 'A Vibrant Economy, Happy Villages, and a Clean Environment for a Sustainable Jeollanam-do,' to realize sustainable development in the province.
Ko Seokgyu, co-chairperson of the Sustainable Development Committee, stated, "For the sustainable development of Jeollanam-do, we will operate the committee effectively by reviewing and improving policies and measures related to sustainable development and presenting our opinions."
Governor Kim Yung-rok said, "Everything we pursue, such as climate response, carbon neutrality, overcoming population decline, and the energy transition, is connected to sustainable development," and requested, "I ask for the active participation of the committee members next year to create 'The Great JeollaNamdo.'"
