Complete Replacement of Streetlight Covers... Creating Safer Night Streets

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 27th that it has completed a project to replace streetlight covers (globes) on major roads to improve the urban landscape and create a safe and pleasant nighttime road environment.

This project was promoted to address the issue of reduced lighting efficiency caused by whitening on the aging streetlight covers (globes) and to improve the cityscape by removing foreign substances inside the fixtures.

The cover (globe) replacement work was carried out mainly along major thoroughfares such as Dongil-ro (4.2 km round trip, Jangam Elementary School~Sindong Elementary School~Baranggol Children's Park), Seobu-ro (5.4 km round trip, Seobu Overpass~Nokyangpyeonggyo Bridge), and Hoguk-ro (4 km round trip, Gyeongmin Square Intersection~Yangju City Boundary). In particular, areas with high nighttime vehicle traffic and high risk of traffic accidents were selected first for the work.

The replacement work was completed earlier this month, and the city plans to continue regular maintenance to ensure proper illumination levels of streetlights and reduce the risk of safety accidents such as traffic accidents, providing citizens with a safe nighttime road environment.

Additionally, the city plans to gradually replace aging streetlights with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to create a more pleasant urban environment through effects such as greenhouse gas reduction, decreased electricity consumption, and lower electricity bills.
