I AM Acquires 32% Stake in Advanced Materials Equipment Company Topmac... Synergy in Composite Copper Foil Business
KOSDAQ-listed company IM has acquired shares in advanced materials manufacturing equipment solution company Topmac to strengthen its competitiveness in the composite copper foil business.
On the 27th, IM announced that it will acquire a 32% stake in Topmac, a specialized company in deposition and plating equipment for precision materials production, for 6.4 billion KRW. After the acquisition, IM will become the second-largest shareholder of Topmac.
This strategic equity investment was made to enhance competitiveness in the composite copper foil business, which is currently being commercialized. The two companies have already been cooperating to establish composite copper foil production equipment and secure manufacturing technology, and plan to continue collaborating to commercialize composite copper foil and various advanced materials and strengthen competitiveness.
Topmac is a specialized company in advanced manufacturing equipment for secondary batteries and IT materials production. It particularly has strengths in roll-to-roll production equipment for wide, ultra-thin, and ultra-precise materials. Topmac’s 1350 millimeter (mm) wide deposition and plating equipment has been applied to IM’s composite copper foil production line.
An IM official said, "We made a strategic equity investment to foster close business cooperation between the two companies," adding, "Combining Topmac’s equipment design and development capabilities with IM’s manufacturing capabilities and domestic and international sales power will create significant synergy in the advanced materials business."

Meanwhile, IM has succeeded in mass-producing composite copper foil films that replace the existing secondary battery anode current collector, electrolytic copper foil. It has provided mass production samples for quality certification to domestic and overseas customers, and plans to begin full-scale mass supply once quality testing is completed.
