Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) created a four-season flower path at the Neuljang site near Gongdeok Station (around 169-2 Yeomni-dong) and held a completion ceremony on December 23.
About 50 people, including Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Baek Nam-hwan, Chairperson of the Mapo-gu Council, city council members, district council members, and residents, attended the ceremony to celebrate the birth of the flower path.
The site where Mapo-gu created the flower path is land owned by the Korea National Railway Corporation and was used as ‘Neuljang’ until May 2020, where flea markets and performances were held.
However, after its closure, development delays led to the installation of tall fences for a long period, cutting off the connection to the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail and causing significant inconvenience to residents due to blocked views, pedestrian obstruction, and aesthetic degradation.
In response, Mapo-gu consulted with the Korea National Railway Corporation to resolve residents’ inconveniences and decided to create a flower path on the site and open it to the public.
To create the flower path, Mapo-gu installed flower beds on a 3,240㎡ site. Approximately 17,000 herbaceous plants of over 30 species, including monkshood, were planted so residents can enjoy flowers throughout the year in the urban area.
The four-season flower path will remain accessible to residents, providing healing and relaxation until the Korea National Railway Corporation’s development project begins.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I am very pleased that this place, once enclosed by cold fences cutting off the forest trail, has been reborn as a flower path welcoming residents with colorful flowers and trees. I hope the four-season flower path becomes a daily resting place and a valuable space that revitalizes the local commercial area.”
