Namyangju-si Selected as an Excellent Institution for Sustainable Transport City Evaluation for Two Consecutive Years
Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 23rd that it has once again solidified its position as a sustainable transportation city by winning the Excellence Award this year as well, following last year, at the '2024 Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation' awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 19th.
The Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation was conducted on 73 cities nationwide with populations of over 100,000, in accordance with Article 15 of the 「Sustainable Transportation and Logistics Development Act」.
The evaluation is based on 27 transportation indicators covering environment, society, and economy, including status assessment and policy evaluation, diagnosing each city's transportation status and policy effectiveness to support the establishment of sustainable transportation strategies.
Since 2015, the city has achieved excellent results in the Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation a total of 10 times through 2024, continuing to play a leading role in sustainable transportation policies.
In particular, in this evaluation, the city received high marks and the honor of the award for policies enhancing public transportation convenience for citizens, such as the operation of Thank You Bus and Happy Taxi, support projects for senior citizens' transportation expenses, and the establishment of new underserved routes.
Oh Cheol-su, Director of the Transportation Bureau, stated, "This award can be seen as the fruit of the transportation policies that Namyangju City has steadily pursued," and added, "We will continue to implement policies that serve as a model for sustainable transportation cities and provide better transportation environments for our citizens."
