Chosun University Hospital reached 100 cases in April and 200 cases in December last year, followed by 300 cases in July and 400 cases in November this year. The number is currently growing rapidly, with over 430 cases performed. Notably, while it took 8 months to reach 200 cases after the 100th, it took only 7 months to reach 300 cases and just 4 months to reach 400, showing an accelerating trend in the cumulative number of robotic surgeries.
According to the Chosun University Hospital Robotic Surgery Center, high-difficulty robotic surgeries are being performed for a variety of diseases in the departments of surgery, urology, otolaryngology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Cancer surgeries account for 70% of all procedures, with benign diseases making up the remaining 30%. By department, surgery accounted for 54% of all robotic surgeries, followed by urology at 41%, otolaryngology at 3%, and obstetrics and gynecology at 2%.
The Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system currently used at Chosun University Hospital provides a high-definition 3D stereoscopic view with 10x magnification, as well as stabilization features to prevent hand tremors and enable precise hand movements, allowing for safer and more sophisticated surgeries.
By minimizing skin incisions, robotic surgery results in less pain and bleeding compared to conventional surgery, and reduces the risk of complications, leading to faster patient recovery and improved treatment outcomes.
Kim Yuseok, Director of the Robotic Surgery Center (Professor of Surgery), said, "I would like to thank all the medical staff and employees who achieved such great results this year through united effort and passion despite difficult internal and external circumstances," and added, "The Chosun University Hospital Robotic Surgery Center will continue to do its best to provide the highest quality medical services."
