Trump: "EU Must Buy US Oil and Gas... Tariffs Will Increase If They Refuse"
President-elect of the United States Donald Trump demanded that the European Union (EU) purchase large quantities of American oil and gas.
On the 20th (local time), Trump posted on his social media platform 'Truth Social' stating this. He said, "I told the European Union that they must buy large amounts of our (American) oil and gas to compensate for the huge (U.S. trade) deficit with the EU."
He added, "If they don't do that, tariffs will be imposed until the very end!!!" he emphasized.
According to data from the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the trade volume of goods and services between the U.S. and the EU in 2022 was $592 billion (858.9 trillion won) in exports and $723.3 billion (1,049.4 trillion won) in imports, resulting in an annual deficit of $131.3 billion (190.5 trillion won).
