The evaluation assesses the current status and policies related to transportation in the environmental, social, and economic sectors and shares best policy practices among local governments.
In this evaluation, Paju City was recognized for efforts such as ▲forming a traffic safety council and expanding smart crosswalk systems as part of traffic safety and mobility rights policies ▲fully implementing a quasi-public village bus system to strengthen public transportation ▲promoting bicycle and pedestrian activities through bicycle insurance and creating a pedestrian environment in the DMZ ▲and greenhouse gas reduction efforts including the Carbon Neutral Living Practice Challenge and establishing the Paju Bongseo hydrogen charging station. As a result, Paju improved from 5th place in 2023 to being selected as the "Best Institution" in 2024.
Paju City is promoting various transportation policies that satisfy citizens, including expanding the metropolitan transportation railway network with the scheduled year-end opening of the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX)-A line, the ongoing West Sea Line extension project to Paju, planned subway Line 3 (Ilsan Line) and Tongillo Line, and the GTX-H line. Additionally, the city operates the Cheonwon Taxi service and rural demand-responsive transport (DRT) buses.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City said, "This result is a valuable achievement made together with citizens who actively cooperated with Paju City's transportation policies," and added, "We will not be satisfied with the present but will strive to develop new policies and promote sustainable transportation policies to provide better transportation welfare to our citizens."
