1.7 Billion KRW Support for R&D Over 3 Years
RealDraw, an AI-based webtoon production startup, announced on the 19th that it has been selected for the Deep Tech TIPS program, a technology startup support project aimed at developing generative AI-based webtoon video production technology.
Deep Tech TIPS is part of the ‘Super Gap Startup 1000+’ project supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, expanding the existing TIPS program. It was introduced to support innovative startups based on technological capabilities, with the goal of discovering promising technology-based startups led by the private sector and fostering them into globally competitive companies through investment linkage. RealDraw signed a Deep Tech TIPS agreement with the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA) this month.
Through Deep Tech TIPS, RealDraw plans to accelerate the development of ‘webtoon video production and generative AI video production technology.’ By utilizing AI and Unreal 3D technology, it aims to streamline the webtoon production process, reduce the time required for drawing and background work, and improve production efficiency by more than 50%. Furthermore, the goal is to expand into short-form and animation content by leveraging webtoons and intellectual property (IP). Additionally, RealDraw will focus on developing ‘video AI’ technology to quickly produce short-form content and globalize it.

During the three-year support period, RealDraw will receive up to 1.5 billion KRW in government-supported R&D funds, along with a total of 200 million KRW for linked support projects such as startup commercialization and overseas marketing, amounting to approximately 1.7 billion KRW in total support. Choi Sang-gyu, CEO of RealDraw, stated, “Through this Deep Tech TIPS selection, we will grow into a technology content company that can respond to the AI technology demands of various webtoon platforms and production companies,” adding, “We will continue to maintain a direction that resolves concerns about copyright infringement while maximizing the benefits of AI technology that RealDraw has consistently pursued.”
