Pilot Operation Since December 11... Opening Ceremony on December 24
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has completely renewed the exhibition space of the 'Mathematics Culture Center,' which was established in 2019 as the first of its kind among local governments nationwide.
The Nowon Mathematics Culture Center is an experiential learning space established to popularize mathematics culture and link various educational programs. Through this renewal, the exhibits have been enhanced and experiential content significantly strengthened.
The renewal process took place over the past year, with a pilot operation starting on December 11. An opening ceremony to mark the completion of the renewal will be held on December 24.
First, the existing exhibition space on the second floor of the Mathematics Culture Center, previously called 'Ddiriddiri Computer World,' has been remodeled into a new experiential space called the 'Math Play Zone.'
The Math Play Zone includes ▲Math Step, where visitors can experience mathematical concepts such as fractions, multiplication, and size comparison through play; ▲Match Math, where participants become game protagonists solving math problems; ▲Touch Touch, which teaches numerical patterns; ▲Math MRI, which develops spatial perception by analyzing cross-sections of three-dimensional shapes; and ▲Math Arcade, composed of Aqua Math, Data Analyst, Four Color Map, and Jump Puzzle.
Additionally, the district plans to continuously introduce software content that stimulates mathematical curiosity and enhances learning effects, considering the learning levels of preschool, elementary students, and family visitors.
Moreover, the existing board game zone on the second floor has been converted into a 'Time Museum Traveling Exhibition' space. The Time Museum, previously located at Hwarangdae Railroad Park, has been relocated here.
The exhibition includes a total of 55 time-measuring instruments from various eras, such as 20 ancient tools like sundials and hourglasses, 34 medieval clocks, and one modern clock, allowing visitors to see and experience timekeeping devices from different periods.
The Nowon Mathematics Culture Center plans to introduce paid admission starting January next year by reorganizing its operational system. Nowon-gu residents will continue to enjoy free access as before, and during the pilot operation period in December, visitor feedback will be reflected to create a more complete viewing environment.
