Samsung Robot Vacuum Cleaner, IoT Security Certification... Ministry of Science and ICT "Expanding Adoption of Safe Products"
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) awarded a certificate to Samsung Electronics on the 17th at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council conference room in Jongno-gu, Seoul, recognizing its robot vacuum cleaner for achieving the highest level of Internet of Things (IoT) security certification.
The IoT security certification system was introduced in response to incidents of IoT products being hacked. The standard type of IoT security certification is granted to products equipped with the highest level of security measures capable of countering advanced hacking attacks.
Samsung Electronics' robot vacuum cleaner, the 'Bespoke AI Steam,' passed all 43 evaluation criteria for the standard type certification and received the certificate. This is the first case of standard type certification in South Korea.
According to foreign media, there have been consecutive hacking suspicion cases involving IoT home appliances, such as a recent claim by a consumer in Minnesota, USA, that abusive language was emitted from the 'Deebot X2s' by Ecovacs, a well-known Chinese robot vacuum manufacturer, used at their home.
The Ministry of Science and ICT added that it plans to introduce and expand the 'IoT Security Certification' label in the form of a certification mark and QR code so that consumers can choose safe IoT products.
