Temporary Suspension of Uijeongbu Gymnasium Use, Replaced by Kyungmin University Gymnasium
Uijeongbu Gymnasium Roof Structure Displacement Measured Due to Winter Snowfall
Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 17th that the KB Insurance Stars Volleyball Team (hereinafter, KB Stars Volleyball Team) will use Kyungmin University Gymnasium (545 Seobu-ro, Uijeongbu City) as an alternative home stadium.
Earlier, the city conducted a detailed safety inspection of the Uijeongbu Indoor Gymnasium, the home stadium of the KB Stars Volleyball Team, in accordance with this year’s “Special Act on the Safety and Maintenance of Facilities.”
Uijeongbu City found that the roof structure had sagging and a reduced load-bearing capacity, posing a risk of safety accidents due to additional loads such as winter snow accumulation (heavy, well-packed snow with high moisture content). Therefore, the gymnasium was temporarily closed until repair and reinforcement work is completed.
The city plans to measure displacement of the roof structure caused by winter snow loads until the end of January next year. Additionally, it will clarify the scope of repair and reinforcement by assessing the seismic performance currently underway and proceed with detailed design and other procedures.
Accordingly, the KB Stars Volleyball Team has explored various venues to hold the remaining home games of the ongoing “2024-2025 V-League” season and has finally confirmed Kyungmin University Gymnasium as the alternative home stadium.
The facility will be converted into a volleyball arena, and after the final inspection by the Korea Volleyball Federation, it will be used as the home stadium starting from the game against the Korea Electric Power Corporation Volleyball Team scheduled for December 22.
