'Christmas Warmth Delivered by Light'... Mapo-gu, Hongdae Red Road Tree Lighting Ceremony
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held the ‘Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Red Road’ on the afternoon of December 15 at Hongdae Red Road R6.
This lighting ceremony was organized to offer visitors to Red Road a warm and magical winter atmosphere and the excitement of Christmas in anticipation of the upcoming Christmas and year-end holidays. The Mapo-gu Parish Council participated in the event as well.
The event opened with performances of trumpet, saxophone, and traditional Korean dance. Following this, guest speeches were given, including by Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu, who surprised everyone by dressing as Santa Claus, and then the highlight of the event, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, took place.
As the lights on the large tree were turned on, the beautiful illumination captivated the footsteps of visitors passing through Red Road.
Subsequent congratulatory performances by the choir for the visually impaired and the Far East Broadcasting Children’s Choir, along with a group choir performance involving all participants, further heated up the Christmas atmosphere.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “Christmas is a day filled with the meaning of sharing and helping neighbors in need,” adding, “I hope this Christmas will be one that creates a warm winter by caring for neighbors, not just our own festival. Mapo-gu will continue to work hard for the happiness era of Mapo residents.”
Mapo-gu installed LED Milky Way lights and sculptures around the Red Road area, major commercial districts, and parks to make the cold winter warm and cozy.
