Gwangjin-gu Receives Special Award in Seoul City's Smoking Cessation Program Evaluation
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) received a special award at the ‘2024 Seoul City Smoking Cessation Project Performance Competition’ hosted by Seoul City.
This competition targets 25 autonomous districts and is an event to share efforts and best practices in four areas: smoking cessation support services, youth smoking prevention, creation of smoke-free environments, and linkage of local resources, selecting districts that have achieved outstanding results over the past year.
Following the excellence award in the smoke-free environment creation category last year, this year Gwangjin-gu received a special award in the local resource linkage category, being selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years.
The district made every effort this year to create a smoke-free city. It installed 154 smoking ban sign blocks. High-visibility functional blocks were used to replace smoking ban floor markers at frequently trafficked subway entrances and school routes to enhance promotional effects.
The ‘Gwangjin Smoking Cessation Safety Map App,’ previously available only on Android phones, was improved to be accessible to iPhone users as well. Additionally, various projects were implemented to promote residents’ health, including ▲1:1 customized smoking cessation counseling for 1,216 people ▲77 mobile smoking cessation clinics visiting workplaces ▲51 educational sessions on smoking prevention for preschool children and youth ▲67 smoking cessation promotions and campaigns.
