Positive Reviews on Overall Food Policy Areas Including Appropriate Rice Production Measures
Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province received the Grand Prize in the ‘2024 Gyeongsangbuk-do Food Policy Evaluation,’ conducted among 22 cities and counties in the province.
Amid the food security crisis caused by recent rice price declines and agricultural disasters, Yeongju City was recognized for its efforts in implementing key agricultural policies such as appropriate rice production policies to strengthen the competitiveness of the food industry, fostering the food industry, securing national and provincial funds, and promoting special policies, earning the ‘Grand Prize.’
This year, the city promoted various support projects with a budget of approximately 8 billion KRW, including support for organic fertilizers and soil conditioners, and support for seedling soil and seedling treatment agents for rice farming households, aiming to produce high-quality rice and stabilize farmers' income.
Additionally, to ensure appropriate rice production, the city implemented projects such as support for non-rice crop cultivation, agreements to reduce rice cultivation areas, and strategic crop direct payments, making efforts to improve the self-sufficiency rate of food other than rice.
